Drama Queen! Writing Compelling Conflict into Queer Comics

  • California College of the Arts Campus 145 Hooper Street, Room N203 San Francisco, CA, 94107 United States (map)

Get ready to workshop your drama with other queer cartoonists! Conflict - whether internal, interpersonal, or global - is an essential element of any juicy story. What are particularly queer flavors of conflict? How do our characters navigate it and learn from it? How does it change them?

In this 3-hour workshop hosted by Kristen Zimmerman (Home) and Mike Rossi (Branches), we’ll look at examples of conflict in queer comics, then break into small groups to workshop and critique each other's work. Participants will leave with concrete feedback and an experience of creative community.

Each participant should bring 3 copies of a work in progress - a story outline, a fully thumbnailed chapter of a longer project, or a mini comic - to share with other participants.
